Collections

The collection is from PFC (T/Sgt) Richard Frake's military records and ephemera, including training certificates for Pre-RADAR VIII, Bomb Reconnaissance School, and Radio/Radar Repairman. The collection also has unofficial certificates proving that Frakes "officially" passed the equator and became a "shellback" on board the USAT Pemant. There are also documents and ephemera about Japanese POWs surrendering.

This collection is comprised of two letters. The first letter, dated 1896 and written on British Museum stationary bearing an impression of the British Arms, was written by Garnett to "My dear Forman," regarding a Museum copy of Hero and Leander. Forman is probably Henry Buxton Forman (1842-1917), most famous for his editions of the work of Shelley and Keats. The second letter, not dated, was written by Edmund Gosse of London to "Dear Le Gallienne.", possibly Richard Le Gallienne (1866-1947).

This collections related to Richard G. Power (Sergeant) who served with the 343rd Engineer Service with the US Army during World War II. The collection consists of maps, a letter, and photographs.

This collection consists of one letter written by Davis on May 21, but the year is not given. It is addressed to a Mrs. Fairchild, and regards typed copies of a manuscript to be delivered to the Hotel Webster. The photograph in the collection is of Davis and his dogs.

The materials in this collection were collected and curated by Richard H. Mette. Mette was a lifelong Jacksonville resident and has family ties to the area going back several generations.

The collection contains a memoir written by Richard Hollis Marsh who served in the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II and Tony Marsh who worked at the Italian Consulate. The narrative outlines Marsh's experiences in the Pacific and experiences in the Italian Consulate in Tientsin, China.

The collection includes a manuscript by Richard Zika entitled "War Dogs of CBI" about war dogs in the Army in the China-Burma-India theater. The manuscript contains 18 chapters and begins by introducing the military order that sent a hundred war dogs and a hundred dog handlers to the CBI area in summer 1943. It is written in a novel format. Chapters cover handlers' and dogs' experiences in travel and deployment, tasks, encountering disease, etc.

This letter, signed by R. K. Call is as follows: "Dear Sir. I have received your kind letter and have but a minute to say I am Much obliged to you and that John W. Smith of Quincy Florida should be appointed keeper of the light house at Appalachicola."

The Richard Kelleher Oral History Collection contains transcripts of 20 oral history interviews that Dick Kelleher conducted with 18 South Florida political activists and Civil Rights leaders between 1983 and 1989. It also contains a transcript of a radio show broadcast on February 8, 1989 by Radio Station WJNO hosted by Jeff Charles with guests Percy Lee, Sylvia Portier, and George Allen discussing South Florida and segregation.

This collection relates to Richard Knight who served in the U.S. Army in the 11th and 5th Infantry Divisions in the European Theater during World War II. This collection contains an oral history transcript where Knight discusses his service in Iceland, Ireland, and France. He also discusses his experience as a prisoner of war in the 12A work camp which was liberated by the Russians.
