Scope and content:

The collection contains a memoir written by Richard Hollis Marsh who served in the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II and Tony Marsh who worked at the Italian Consulate. The narrative outlines Marsh's experiences in the Pacific and experiences in the Italian Consulate in Tientsin, China.


Biographical / historical:

Richard Hollis Marsh served in the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theater (PTO). Marsh was born on November 16, 1925, in Waterville, WA. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1943. He sailed in the Pacific delivering supplies to various ports. On the ships, he worked as a wiper, fireman, water tender, and oiler. He left the Merchant Marines in 1946.
