Biographical / historical:

Richard Harding Davis, born in Philadelphia in 1864, was a journalist and author. His father was an editor of a newspaper and his mother was a novelist. Davis started his career in newspapers, becoming a well recognized reporter. He also contributed articles to magazines, and eventually published compilations of his work in book form. He also wrote fiction. While popular during his lifetime, his writings were very much of the time he lived and his popularity did not endure.
