Robert Rauschenberg signed poster, 1980

2.2 Linear Feet 1 box
Abstract Or Scope
This collection consists of a Photos In + Out City Limits: Ft Myers FL exhibition poster, hand signed by Robert Rauschenberg. Rauschenberg gifted the signed poster to Lionel Suntop, co-founder of Light Impressions, an early publisher and distributor of photobooks. Robert Rauschenberg was an American painter and graphic artist known for his Combines (1954–1964), a group of artworks that incorporated everyday objects as art materials. He also worked with photography, printmaking, papermaking, and performance. In the early 1970s, Rauschenberg lobbied U.S. Congress to pass a bill that would compensate artists when their work is resold on the secondary market. As a result of Rauschenberg's lobbying efforts, California governor Jerry Brown signed the California Resale Royalty Act of 1976 into law. Rauschenberg lived and worked in New York City and on Captiva Island, Florida, until his death on May 12, 2008.
