- Scope and content:
This collection pertains to Robert O'Loughlin and his experience on the home front during World War II. The collection contains a manuscript in which O'Loughlin detailed the memories from his childhood during the war. Some of the memories include having ration stamp books for food, clothing, and other major items, seeing a captured Japanese submarine displayed in his hometown, not having access to certain foods like cold-cuts, and having street lights dimmed at night.
- Biographical / historical:
Robert O'Loughlin was born on March 13, 1932 in Saint Louis City, Missouri. He was a child during the war, and remained on the home front with his family. During the war his father was a city policeman, and his mother took care of him and his siblings. Later in life, O'Loughlin was a high school guidance counselor and college advisor. He married Judy Rudolph in 1964 and had two children. O'Loughlin passed away on October 23, 2010 and is buried at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Manteno, Illinois.
