Handwritten letter on stationary folded with embossed mark; Nicholas' cousin Carrie writes that she enjoyed the amusing story he wrote to her "Pa" and also of her alarm at how ill Chris was when he returned from Washington. She wishes this "cruel, fratricidal war was at end." She also mentions the dismissal of Col. Chorman and other news from home.

One page handwritten letter from Nicholas' brother, Chris; Tipped-in newspaper notice re: Capt. David McGregg [David M. Gregg] replaced Col. Chorman as Commander of the 8th Penn. Volunteer Calvary; Chris asks him to take care of his accounts and gives Nick information about a halter that required repair and accounts that needed to be settled. He also writes that he took a short walk with Mother and became "well exhausted" in two squares [blocks?]; Signed Lieut. C. Kneass, 8th Penna Calvary; "P.S. All my affairs I leave in your hands."

Handwritten letter on folded stationary with embossed mark; Ed writes that he has forwarded Nick's "billet duet" to their "fair friend." He also teases Nick about "breaking some hearts" among his ladies' friends. Ed ends his letter with a joke about Dicken's Tale of Two Cities.

Handwitten letter on folded stationary with embossed mark; This letter is to Nicholas' brother, Chris, from their Aunt who is inquiring about Chris' health. She expresses several thoughts concerning the war efforts and the advancement of troops such as, "I only hope that our army will be patient and abide by General McClellan"

Handwritten letter on folded stationary; Nicholas' friend writes that the Regiments are "paralyzed" over the Governor's order to consolidate all incomplete Regiments by January 16th. He also asks if Nicholas knows anything about the reports of Chorman being mustered out. He sends other news from "Hamiltonville society."
