This collection primarily consists of photographs (with a few newspaper clippings and miscellaneous documents) of the Lopez and Mirabal families, collected and marked by Frank Lopez.
Tampa native Mike DiBona served in the 10th Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. At war's end, he was stationed at the small isle of Iejima (previously known as Ie Shima) in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. While there, he turned his mess tent into a new "Columbia Restaurant." Using ingredients sent to him from Tampa, DiBona tried to replicate the food he ate back home. A typhoon wiped out the tent, which was soon replaced with a pre-fabricated mess hall. He returned to Tampa where he lived out the remainder of his years.
