Scope and content:

This collection consists of a scrapbook created by Loyal Frisbie when he was a student at Florida Southern College from 1933-1937. The scrapbook includes student handbooks, a history of the Pi Kappa Fraternity, news clippings, correspondence, graded exams, and his diploma.

Biographical / historical:

Loyal Frisbie (1915-2004) was editor and publisher for the Polk County Democrat and Fort Meade Leader Newspapers of Polk County. He was a past lay leader and longtime Sunday school teacher of the Bartow First United Methodist Church, a 1937 graduate of Florida Southern College, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Bartow Rotary Club, past president Florida Press Association, honorary Doctor of Letters degree from FSC in 1985, and member of 75th Infantry Division Veterans Association. He was an Army combat veteran during World War II.

As a student at FSC, Frisbie was the editor of The Southern student newspaper and a member of the Pi Kappa Fraternity. He was also a member of the Alpha Psi Omega Honor Society.

Frisbie taught journalism as an adjunct professor at Florida Southern College for a number of years. He was awarded a Doctor of Letters degree by the college in 1985 and honored as its Outstanding Journalism Alumnus in recognition of his commitment to journalism and to aspiring student journalists. He was inducted into the Florida Press Hall of Fame in 1989.
