- Scope and content:

Select materials from the Feminist Women's Health Center Records have been digitized and are available through the FSU Digital Library.
- Biographical / historical:
Feminist Women's Health Center, Inc. (FWHC) was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in Florida in 1974. It opened the Women's Choice Clinic in Tallahassee on June 29, 1974. It provided services, advocacy, and education in areas including general health, pregnancy and childbirth, birth control, abortion, sexuality, diabetes, and hypertension.
It was a member of the national Federation of Feminist Women's Health Centers. The Centers grew out of a national Self-Help movement that encouraged women to learn about and control their own bodies and health care.
In October 1975, FWHC of Tallahassee filed an anti-trust lawsuit against several local obstetricians and the Director of the Florida State Board of Medical Examiners, alleging a conspiracy to keep physicians from working with the Center. After five years of litigation the doctors agreed to settle out of court.
In 1983, the Center moved to a newly remodeled clinic at 505 West Georgia Street.
