Containers:
Box 2, Folder 15
Scope and content:

bound issue from January 10, 1900; Vol XLVI, no. 1192. Lithographs address law, legislature, and corruption; financial situation for laborers and capitalists from 1875 to 1900, and interest dropping on investments and commodities. Lithographs include "The Law-Mills Again at Work" (title page; shows a "Legislator" at the top of a hill turning a crank that empties papers labeled "Law" from the U.S. Capitol, creating an avalanche of "Legislation". The avalanche of paper is smothering "Justice" as she struggles to hold her scales); "The Evolution of the Dollar" (shows before/after comparison between capitalists and laborers in 1875 and 1900. On the left, the 1875 panel shows two individuals: a laborer and a capitalist; the laborer holds a small silver dollar with one hand, the capitalist holds a large silver dollar with two hands. Behind the laborer is a sign that states prices for commodities like "coal, flour, furniture, coffee, sugar, shoes, kerosene oil, gas, cotton cloth, clothes." Behind the capitalist, a sign is labeled "1875 interest on money 8 and 10." On the right panel, showing 1900, the laborer holds large silver dollar with both hands, while the capitalist holds the smaller silver dollar. The signs on the 1900 panel show dropped interest on the dollar and decreased prices for commodities)
