- Containers:
- Box 2, Folder 18
- Scope and content:
bound issue from January 31, 1900; Vol XLVI, no. 1195. Lithographs address wealth and class; imperialism, white man's burden, the Spanish-American War, and missionaries in the Philippines post-war. Lithographs include "A First-Class Lie" (title page; shows two wealthy/upper class men--and Englishman in all black with a top hat, monocle, and cane; the other is a Chicago business man in a bowler hat with a pocket watch, cigar, and glasses--in the street in London. A coach labeled "Piccadilly Circus" is seen behind them with passengers); "If They'll Only Be Good" (shows Uncle Sam standing next to a crowd of American soldiers and "Daughters of the Revolution." Uncle Sam is gesturing to both crowds; the soldiers boarding ships to return to America after defeating the Spanish in the Philippines, and the women--one labeled "Daughters of the Revolution" and holding various books, pamphlets, cookware, and a typewriter--are walking towards Philippine natives, presumably to educate them)
