Scope and content:

The collection was created by former Florida State University president, Stanley Marshall and is composed of memorandums, reports, brochures, committee rosters, and agendas from Administrative Budget Review Committee, Steering Committee Budget Coalition, Amoco Foundation Awards Committee, Academic Review Commitee, and the School Board of Leon County.

Biographical / historical:

Dr. J. Stanley Marshall was president of Florida State University from February 1969-August 1976. He was born in Cheswick, Pennsylvania on January 27, 1923. Before arriving to Florida State University in 1958, he previously held a professorship in Physicis at the State University of New York at Cortland. He consulted widely in science education, primarily in the Middle East, and was recognized globally for his accomplishments, including the elite designation as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Marshall served as dean of the School of Education and Executive Vice President before his appointment as president. During his presidency, Marshall faced moments of radical student protests. Nevertheless, his campus leadership became notable for eradicating acts of segregation. Following his presidency, he remained active in higher education and served on FSU Board of Trustees and the Florida Board of Governors.
