- Biographical / historical:
Andrew Christian (A.C.) Frost was born in Denmark in 1846. He moved to the United States in 1876 and settled in New York. His occupations and business led him to work and live in Illinois, Wisconsin, a return to Denmark, Miami and then Dania (at the time called Modello, Florida). Throughout his life, A.C. Frost worked many jobs, including that of chief clerk and bookkeeper, work for a construction company building the Illinois state capitol building, and odd jobs at the Leeland Hotel in Springfield, Illinois. He was also the proprietor of a general store with a post office, a store building, and a home in an area that would come to be called "Frostville" in Oconto County, Wisconsin. In Dania, Florida, he developed farms and built the first general store (1922) with a post office in addition to other businesses. He purchased land and developments in the Dania area, and his support helped to establish an independent Broward County.
A.C. Frost died in Dania, Florida on February 12, 1924, leaving behind a large family, including sons who helped him develop land in Florida while he travelled to former areas of residence. Frost had three wives (Mary Gregerson Frost, Mary Hanson Frost, and Catherine Johnson Frost) and ten children during his lifetime.
