Scope and content:

This collection consists of the LGBTQ+ publications published by the Gay and Lesbian Community Services of Central Florida, Inc. from 1981 through 1997. The publications within this collection include Or-lambda Sentinel, New Direction, The Center, The Center Fold, and The Triangle. There are also a few issues of The Paper and The Alternative, which are listed under the series headings of New Direction and The Triangle respectively.

Biographical / historical:

The Gay Community Services of Central Florida who later changed their name to the Gay and Lesbian Community Services of Central Florida, Inc. published a series of monthly publications that featured news that focused on the LGBTQ+ community in Orlando from 1981 to 1997. Or-lambda Sentinel ran from 1981 to 1982 and became New Direction from 1982 until 1984. New Direction became The Paper in 1984 of which this collection contains four issues of. In 1987 the publication started its run as The Center and in 1989 it became The Center Fold until 1992. The publication then ran as the Triangle from 1993 until 1997 when it became the Alternative which this collection has two issues of.

Acquisition information:
Gifted by the LGBT+ Center Orlando to the LGBTQ+ History Museum of Central Florida in 2010. Gifted by the LGBTQ+ History Museum of Central Florida to University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections University Archives in 2021 (Accession no. CFM2021_22).
