Abstract:
This collection contains legal documents pertaining to the DeSoto County court case of Brenda M. Johnson, et al. vs. De Soto County Board of Commissioners and De Soto County School Board, et al. Included are memoranda, depositions, declarations and historical research conducted by Gary Mormino. Also included in the collection are transcripts of oral history interviews conducted by Gary Mormino that cover the Tampa Bay area's history. Finally, a collection of Mormino's articles for the Tampa Tribune are also included.

A collection of legal documents, oral history transcripts and newspaper articles from Dr. Gary R. Mormino.

Biographical / historical:

Dr. Gary Mormino is a Professor Emeritus of History and Politics at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, where he has been an instructor since 1977. Dr. Mormino received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina and has authored both academic and popular books focusing on Florida history. In addition to monographs, Dr. Mormino has also contributed articles to the Tampa Tribune, the St. Petersburg Times, the Orlando Sentinel, and the Miami Herald. Dr. Mormino was named the Florida Humanities Council Humanist of the Year in 2003 and received the Florida Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing in 2014.
