Scope and content:

The Broward County Historical Commission Records include correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, programs, audiocassette tapes, and other materials created and used by the Broward County Historical Commission (BCHC). The records document Broward County Historical Commission programs as well as other activities conducted by the Historical Commission, including historical property surveys and public research services. The Broward County Pioneer Days programs materials include programs, photographs and slides, and biographical information on the honorees. The records also include audiocassette recordings of Brown Bag Lunch programs and BCHC meetings.

Biographical / historical:

The Broward County Historical Commission (BCHA) was created in 1972. The BCHC activities encompassed publishing the "Broward Legacy" and other publications, land and marine archaeology, designating and researching historic properties, oral history projects, the preservation of historical archives and public research in those archives, and public historical programs. The Broward County Historical Commission was disbanded by a county ordinance on September 23, 2014.

After this ordinance, the BCHC archival collections were transferred to the Broward County Library (Main Library), resulting in the creation of the Broward County Historical Archives. The BCHC Records were accessioned into the Broward County Historical Archives for reference and historical research purposes.

Acquisition information:
The Broward County Historical Commission Records were transferred to the Broward County Library's Broward County Historical Archives in 2014 (Accession BCHA-2014.5).
