Summary

Creator:
Florida. Circuit Court (Escambia County).
Abstract:
Name index volumes to official deed records of the Escambia County (Florida) Clerk, 1820-1982. Volumes are divided into date series (1820-1910, 1911-1937, 1938-1955, 1956-1961, 1962-1969, 1970-1977, 1978-March 1982) with individual volumes for each alphabet letter (e.g., "A-E). Letter volumes index personal names, businesses, banks, and other entities. Deeds document the transfer of property, usually from a grantor (also referred to as direct) to a grantee (also referred to as indirect). This collection comprises two sets of indexes; an index to grantors and an index to grantees. Property will include real estate and land as well as ships, boats, enslaved individuals (prior to 1865), and other property. Letter volumes (e.g., B, D-E, etc.) will be in order by letter (B, BA, BE, etc.) but will not be strictly alphabetical. These are indexes and will assist in research as well as helping users identifying official records which are available at the county archives. 242 volumes (72 l.f.)
