These photographs were taken by the Recce Unit of the British 2nd Army. This unit was part of a reconnaissance unit which participated in the liberation of Nazi camps in April, 1945. Charged with the photography of the camps, these photographs were taken at Bergen-Belsen. Though no credits are given, a majority of the photos were likely taken by Harry Oakes and Bill Lawrie, both assigned to the 2nd Army to document British movement in World War II. Several photographs show Heinrich Himmler just after he committed suicide on May 24, 1945 in Lindeburg, Germany.
