The Cyril Davis Collection contains 8 images. Two are original panoramic photographs taken during the Land Boom. Four of the images depict one of Broward County's early bridge construction projects.

Scope and content:

The Cyril Davis Collection contains two panoramic photographs of Fort Lauderdale dating from 1925 and 1926 as well as photographic duplicates dating from 1917 and 1940. One panoramic photograph is of a "tin tan tourist camp" in Fort Lauderdale taken on Feburary 20, 1925. The other panorama is of of Ft. Lauderdale, looking north across the New River from Maxwell Arcade Building dated January 19, 1926 by Blanche Photo Service, 1926 and includes the Sunset Theater, Hotel Broward, real estate company storefronts, the New River, boats, and automobiles. The photographic duplicates are of the 1917 Sospiro Canal bridge construction project, as well as one of the Broward County Courthouse circa 1940.

These images depict one of Broward County's early bridge construction projects as well as the appearance of Fort Lauderdale's tourism industry and downtown area during the "Land Boom" prior to the 1926 hurricane.

Biographical / historical:

H. Cyril Davis Jr. (1917-2007) who donated these photographs was the son of Herbert C. Davis (1879-1957), the first Broward County Engineer.
