Background

Scope and content:

Tech 4 Franklin B. Evans served with the US Army Air Corps in the China-Burma- India (CBI) Theater from 1944 to 1945. His manuscript covers his enlistment and training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, through his redeployment back to the United States. Evans dedicates a chapter to each new location where was stationed, including Calcutta, Karachi, and the Upper Assam in India, and finally, Kumming Air Force Base in China. While at Kumming, Evans was a Supply Clerk for the Army Air Corps and was responsible for all aircraft manifests for crews flying "The Hump." Evans recalled air strikes from Japanese bombers and being within a hundred miles of the Japanese Army. His manuscript concludes with a section on how Coca-Cola failed China during the war, as well as his discharge from the Army in 1946.
