Background

Scope and content:

This record group documents the formative years of the Archives and Special Collections, including early administrative planning and establishment activities that took place prior to the department's official opening.

The files contain architectural layouts, budgetary documents and purchase orders, mission statements, exhibit files, and background information on Broward College history. They also include documentation of the development of the Museum partnership and the grand opening of the Holcombe Center in 2008. The records reflect both the physical planning phase (2004–2006) and the institutional celebrations marking the opening of the department in 2008.

Biographical / historical:

The Broward College Archives and Special Collections were established in January 2008 as the official repository for the preservation of the College's history and cultural legacy. The department's mission is to collect, safeguard, and provide access to historically significant records—including institutional papers, publications, photographs, and artifacts—relating to the College's growth, administration, and impact on the community.
