Background
- Scope and content:
The FSU Center for Leadership & Service Records document the work and activities of the Center from its founding in 1995 to 2024. It includes marketing material for events, including flyers, brochures, posters and signs, as well as news clippings, newsletters and Center publications, photographs, scrapbooks, and news coverage on VHS. Event planning files document the organizing of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, Service Leadership Seminars, Jumpstart Tallahassee, and Make a Difference Tallahassee.
- Biographical / historical:
FSU's Center for Leadership & Service was founded as the Center for Civic Education and Service in 1995. They later merged with the Leeds Center to become the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement and thereafter merged with the Office of Multicultural Affairs to become the Center for Leadership and Social Change. In 2023, the name was changed to the Center for Leadership & Service to better align with the other units in the Division of Student Affairs.
The mission of the Center for Leadership & Service is to transform lives through leadership development and community engagement. The Center encourages students to explore and understand their individual values, strengths, and passions through reflection, providing students with experiences to strengthen their knowledge and skills in order to become more effective leaders. They offer over 20 programs that foster opportunities to create positive, sustainable change on campus, in the community, and around the world. The Center hosts speakers, workshops, intensive multi-day leadership trainings, one-time local service trips through EngageTLH, and global summers of service.
