Background
- Scope and content:
The collection consists of reports, annual reports, studies, and quality of life surveys conducted by the Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. for Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. The collection is arranged in chronological order beginning in 1975 through 2015.
- Biographical / historical:
Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. (JCCI) was formed in 1974 after the Jacksonville Community Planning Conference in June of that year. It was created as a nonpartisan civic group to evaluate the needs of the Jacksonville community. The original mission statement was "to bring people together to learn about out community, engage in problem solving and act to drive positive change."
The JCCI led the creation of 80 reports examining the needs and state of education, city finances, mental health in Jacksonville.
In 1985 the JCCI created the country's first "community indicator project" in the form of the Annual Quality of Life Indicators Report.
Due to financial issues and staffing changes, the JCCI was disbanded in 2017 and the Citizen Engagement Pact was created and considered an "organizational evolution" of JCCI. The new mission of the Citizen Engagement Pact was to "Foster a culture of civic engagement to improve the quality of life for all citizens.
In March of 2021, it was announced that JCCI was going to be reactivated with the original mission as the focus of the organization with an emphasis to "focus on community discussions, consensus, building and offering meaningful policy prescriptions of local lawmakers."
