Background
- Scope and content:
Mary Theresa Kraus, a nurse in the Foreign Service Volunteer Corps, served in both India and China during World War II. She accumulated a personal collection of photographs and letters during the war. Documents include letters written to Kraus' parents between October 1942 and November 1945. Also included are a series of photographs of India and China, as well as press clippings Kraus sent home about the American campaign in China. In addition, the collection includes Chinese paper money and Kraus' Army registration.
- Biographical / historical:
Mary Theresa Kraus was a nurse in the Foreign Service Volunteer Corps and was inducted as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in 1942. She served in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater at the 95th Station Hospital in Chabua, India, and also in Paoshan, China.
