- Scope and content:
The collection contains documentation of oral history interviews of African Americans who formerly or currently reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Project documentation such as consent forms and interview questions is included. A selection of the interviews include transcripts and/or audio recorded on cassette tapes.
- Biographical / historical:
The Trailblazers of Broward County project to collect oral histories began in May 2009 when 20 African Americans from Broward County gathered at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. Over the next several years the group gathered oral history interviews.
- Acquisition information:
- Trailblazers of Broward County Inc. donated the materials to AARLCC Special Collections on June 26, 2012 (Accession AARLCC-2012.5). The interviews were accepted as a donation by the Broward County Board of Commissioners.
- Processing information:
This collection received file level processing by Samuel Woods in March 2022. The collection received additional processing by Erin Purdy in September 2026. This finding aid may be updated to reflect new descriptions as well as acquisitions to the collection.
