Biographical / historical:

The Women's Fund Miami-Dade was founded by Marilynn Gladstone. Gladstone assembled a 12 person steering committee of other philanthropically minded women in South Florida, and in 1992 they established the Women's Fund of Dade County. In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew, the Women's Fund initiated their grantmaking program by sending out their first call for proposals; they gave modest $1000 grants to 5 organizations from around Miami-Dade County. In 1998, the Women's Fund of Dade County became the Women's Fund Miami-Dade County, and in 2007, they became the Women's Fund Miami-Dade (WFMD). They have provided millions of dollars in grants to organizations benefiting women and girls in Miami. In addition to grantmaking, WFMD supports women and girls through advocacy in the form of program support, research, and public awareness campaigns based around their four pillars: Freedom from Violence, Leadership, Health and Wellbeing, and Economic Security.

Founding Members (Steering Committee): Marcia Fair, Sue Sponnable, Conchy Bretos, Evelyn Cohan, Lynn Meyer, Aundrella Hamed, Sondi Reiff, Marguerita Delgado, Brenda Shapiro, Hilarie Bass, Beatrice Louissaint, Kathy Shea
