Scope and content:

The collection contains two scrapbooks created by Katherine Rankin. The first scrapbook contains scholarship letters, commencement programs, newspaper clippings, and other ephemera related to her time at FSC. This includes items related to her involvement with Alpha Chi Omega. The second scrapbook contains poetry and interpretations she enjoyed.

Biographical / historical:

Katherine Killian Rankin (1918-2005) was a student at Florida Southern College from 1937-1940. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She also sang in the choir. She later married Victor Rankin, who also graduated from Florida Southern College and was a member of Lambda Chi.

Born in Straven, Ala., on May 25, 1918, she came to Lakeland from Miami. She was a teacher and secretary. She was a member of the PEO Chapter AW. She was a retired missionary for the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church in Lakeland.

Acquisition information:
The scrapbooks were donated to the college by Katherine's son, Larry Rankin, in 2013.
