Background
- Scope and content:
The UCF Police Department collection, 1969-2013, includes materials from and about the University of Central Florida Police Department (UCFPD). It consists of news clippings, printed ephemera, officer training materials, and other departmental files relating to the activities of the department and its involvement with the UCF and Central Florida community. This collection offers insight into UCFPD's training practices, its development and role on campus, public attitudes toward the department, and its community engagement efforts.
Series I: Administrative Files, 1977-2012 consists of internal documents which outline the employment, training, and work of officers at the UCFPD, all related to keeping the campus safe. The series contains reports, pamphlets, memos, maps, and photographs. Series II: Newspaper Clippings, 1969-2002 consists of assorted clippings and photocopies of news articles documenting UCFPD activities, such as safety initiatives, responses to campus crime, management of campus parking and traffic, and police staffing for special events.
Series III: Outreach Materials, 1991-2013 holds materials related to the UCF Police Departments' relationship with the UCF and Central Florida community. It features images taken by UCF Marketing of hand-made signs posted on windows by students. The signs thank UCF Police for thwarting a mass shooting at UCF's Tower 1 student-housing complex in 2013. It also includes event programs, a string art piece of the Pegasus mascot, and an invitation.
- Biographical / historical:

The UCFPD serves the main campus as well as UCF Downtown, the Rosen College of Hospitality and Management, the Health Sciences Campus in Lake Nona, and all UCF-managed housing facilities. The UCFPD serves nearly 68,000 students, 13,000 employees, and thousands of visitors each year. UCFPD has Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Community Partnership, K-9, and Community Service Units, as well as a Communications Center and Records department. As one of the few universities in the country with its own dedicated Communications Center, UCFPD has 24/7 dispatchers. Since their addition in 1995, UCFPD has also managed the Emergency Blue Light Phones across all UCF campuses, which currently number over 260.
The UCFPD is led by Chief of Police and Associate Vice President of Public Safety, Robin Griffen-Kitzerow, who became the first woman to assume the role in June 2025. She succeeded Carl Metzger, who held the position from 2018 to 2025, and Richard Beary, who served from 2007 to 2018.
