Background
- Scope and content:
The collection of First Lieutenant James Feerick contains an oral history transcript of an interview provided by the Reichelt Program for Oral History. Feerick served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as part of the 8th Bomber Command, 1st Bombardment Wing, 91st Bombardment Group in the European theater. He was based in London at Bassingbourne.
- Biographical / historical:
The oral history states that Feerick joined the Army Air Corps right after the attack on December 7, 1941. He crewed a B-17 bomber in England where he was stationed. The collection gives a good description of his mission over Germany in which Feerick's plane was shot down, and he was captured and kept as a POW in Stalag Luft 3. The collection also gives a solid description of his life as a POW.
