Background

Scope and content:

Collection includes notable events, members of the campus community, and general scenes that document the campus and student experience at USF St. Petersburg. Materials consist of scrapbooks, slides, photographs, and photographic negatives from the mid 1960s through 1989.

Coverage began in the late 1960s, at a time when the campus covered the peninsula presently used by the College of Marine Science. Many photographs show student events and activities at the campus pool, in "A" and "B" Buildings, and along Bayboro Harbor. Photographs from the 1980s document the expansion of campus facilities with the opening of the original Poynter Library (now Bayboro Hall), Davis Hall (formerly Bayboro Hall), and Coquina Hall.

Biographical / historical:

Since 1969, J. M. "Sudsy" Tschiderer has played a paramount role in the development of student leadership on campus. She served as a founding member of the Student Activities office and she worked in the Division of Student Affairs for nearly twenty-six years. With an avid interest in journalism, she established and contributed to a number of campus publications, including the Crow's Nest. Tschiderer now works part-time in the Office of Advancement.

Acquisition information:
J. M. "Sudsy" Tschiderer donated three scrapbooks in summer 2005 to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library for use in the Fortieth Anniversary Exhibit of the campus. She gave the library additional slides, photographs, and photographic negatives in August 2006.
