- Biographical / historical:
Jacques Abram was born in Lufkin, Texas in 1915. His musical talent was recognized by the age of 6. He took lessons from Hu T. Huffmaster and became a protege of Arthur Shattuck. He was awarded a scholarship to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and later Juillard Graduate School in New York. The materials document Abram's worldwide professional career as a concert pianist and include his years as resident artist at Oklahoma College for Women beginning in 1955, artist teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music - University of Toronto from 1960 to 1963, and professor at the University of South Florida Fine Arts Department from 1963 until his death in 1998.
There is little about him during World War II when he served in the military, and after 1970 when he stopped playing concerts. The collection represents his achievements as a concert pianist with few references to his personal life.
