Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains the personal memoirs of Justus "Jock" Lawrence, the Chief Public Relations Officer for the ETO. Lawrence describes his dealings w/ various officers and the press. He also talks about the strictness in which military secrets were kept and of the serious nature of punishments for those who broke those rules. He describes having to place an officer under arrest for giving classified information to the "Central Park News." This officer was dishonorably discharged and later committed suicide. He also talks about people he worked with, such as Robert Pollock, who later went on to write for "General Hospital," "The Doctors," and "Dynasty." Lawrence's book is also a history of the war itself, using some information he knew from the inside. It also goes into a post-war meeting Lawrence had with Eisenhower. 266 pages.
