Background

Biographical / historical:

Mike Resnick (1942 - 2020), a prolific author of Science Fiction novels and short stories, began his career in 1957 and since then, wrote a number of novels, short stories and articles, many under various pseudonyms. In addition, he edited tabloid newspapers, a number of science fiction anthologies, and two men's magazines. He also wrote short non-fiction and was a regular columnist for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Among Resnick's widely recognized works include The Soul Eater, Walpurgis III, the Tales of the Galactic Midway series, Santiago, and The Widowmaker series. Resnick was most noted, however, for the "Kirinyaga" series, which, with 51 major and minor awards and nominations to date, was one of the most honored series of stories in science fiction.

A highly regarded author, editor, and critic, Resnick has received numerous Hugo Awards and Nebula Awards, as well as a Clarke (British), Seiun-shos (Japanese), Homer Awards, an Alexander Award, a Golden Pagoda Award, a Hayakawa SF Award, a Locus Award, and has topped the S. F. Chronicle poll at least five times.
