Background
- Scope and content:
The bulk of this collection has been organized by Athletics sport then divided into series based on content type; the files within each series are then organized either chronologically or alphabetically. This collection also includes records from the Athletics Department, Athletics Booster Clubs, Cheerleading, and Intramural Sports. The structure for the Athletics series and Athletics Departmental Files is detailed below. The Cheerleading and Intramural Sports series share a similar organizational structure as the Athletics files, while the Athletics Booster Clubs series is just organized by each club.
Athletics Athletes These files contain materials such as photographs, statistic sheets, and press articles on the individual athlete. Years included are from both the materials themselves as well as data found within media guides and record books.
Box Scores and Game Data These files contain materials such as box scores, schedules, rosters, calendars, and gameday pamphlets. Within a couple of series are also detailed, handwritten scorebooks with detailed game information. Events These files contain information on events such as fundraisers, special games, and championship win celebrations (parties, parades, etc.).
History These files contain information such as seasonal rankings, retired numbers, and scrapbooks.
Media Guides These files contain both seasonal media guides as well as championship/tournament specific guides.
Press Newsletters and Bulletins These files contain newsletters and bulletins created by the teams, usually for fans and/or boosters.
Newspaper Articles These files contain articles written during the season about the team and come not just from Florida newspapers but also from newspapers across the US. These clippings were usually received by the Athletics Department as part of a clipping service and have since been photocopied for better preservation. Clippings identified as being from The Southern student newspaper, however, were discarded as the information was considered duplicative.
Press Releases These files contain press releases created by both FSC and the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Press releases concerning multiple sports have been photocopied and a copy has been placed within each mentioned sport.
Audiovisual Group and Team Photographs These files contain both official team photographs as well as informal group photographs, such as group action shots or celebration shots.
Photographs These files contain additional photographs found, such as of the mascot, fans, equipment, etc.
CD-ROMs Most CDs contain photographs such as action shots, official portraits, and team photographs. These CDs have not yet been backed up yet. Negatives Most negatives are action shots, official portraits, or team photographs. The negatives have been placed into archival sleeves for preservation, but they have not been digitized. Slides Most slides are action shots, official portraits, or team photographs. The slides have been placed into archival sleeves for preservation, but they have not been digitized.
Video Located within the Men's Basketball section, these video tapes presumably contain game footage. There are VHS tapes, Betamax tapes, and three and a quarter video tapes. These tapes have not been reviewed due to not having the necessary equipment to do so, but they were kept due to no obvious signs of degradation (damage, odor, etc.).
Awards and Honors These files contain awards and honors won by the team. Note that the National Championship trophies are over with the Athletics department. Memorabilia These files contain various pieces of memorabilia such as bumper stickers, jackets, and commemorative postcards.
Athletics Departmental Files Athletics Coaches and Staff These files fall under Faculty and Staff files and are under the same access rights. Most of the information included in these files are primarily press materials and photographs, however.
Budget and Finances These files contain a budget from the 1980s.
Conference History These files contain information from the conferences that FSC was previously in prior to joining the Sunshine State Conference.
Contracts and Agreements These files contain different broadcasting and advertising agreements with outside parties.
Correspondence These files contain correspondence regarding general Athletics Department topics such as team formation and disbandment.
Directories These files contain departmental directories, such as contact lists.
Policies and Procedures These files contain policies and procedures created by the department as well as the NCAA.
