Robert MacLaurin MacDonald (1930-2013) was a world-renowned musician and longtime Artist-in-Residence at Florida Southern College. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Indiana University, and the Musikhocschule in Vienna, Austria. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After a highly successful New York debut in Carnegie Recital Hall, he came to Florida Southern College on a concert tour in 1964 and returned to become Artist-in-Residence, Professor of Piano, and Chairman of the Department of Music. In 1985, he was named as the first recipient of Florida Southern's Distinguished Academic Chair in Music. Upon Dr. Juliane Jordan's retirement in 1976, Mr. MacDonald became Coordinator of the Festival of Fine Arts. He chaired the planning committee for the Festival for many years thereafter. He passed away in September of 2013.
Ingrid MacDonald, b.1936, met Robert while she was studying drama in her home city of Vienna. She went on to perform in repertory theatra. The concept of combining music and drama grew out of Robert's solo concert tours. The success of their verious programs took Robert and Ingrid on frequent tours of America and Europe. They appeared on national and educational television on both continents. They toured Austria for Jeunesse Musicale and performed on the Queen Elizabeth II. Ingrid also performaed at the Asolo State Theatre, Stageworks of Tampa, Theatre Winter Haven, and the Mark Two Dining Theatre in Orlando. For two consecutive years she was named Best Actress by the Southeastern Theatre Conference. In 1991 she staged Florida Southern College's production of The Mousetrap, her first directing venture.
