Biographical / historical:

John Richard Pandora joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and was discharged in 1947. He served with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Vienna Area Command, and the Occupation army in Vienna. Before Pandora's own tour of duty, his childhood friend, Richard "Dick" Boucher, sent him a letter from Germany along with a captured German naval flag. A copy of Boucher's letter, pictures of the flag, and news articles about him are included in the collection. In his letter, Boucher relates his negative feelings towards the recently surrendered German soldiers and talks about requisitioning cars and motorcycles from the Germans.
