Background

Scope and content:

The Florida State University Office of the Provost Records document the administration, governance, and development of Florida State University, largely from the 1980s to the 2010s. Records in the collection include self-studies and reports related to enrollment and retention, salaries, funding, and resource planning; master and strategic plans; committee reports, meeting minutes, and agendas, including from the FSU Board of Trustees and State University System of Florida's Board of Governors; budgetary records by academic unit; program audits and proposals, including a proposal and consideration for a Chiropractic program in the College of Medicine; research reports from the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory; proposals and reports for externally-funded projects; agreements with the Asolo Conservatory and Ringling Museum; and internal and external correspondence with the Provost's office.

The collection documents the development of the university's academic programs, particularly regarding the College of Medicine. Also documented is the university's study of student enrollment and retention. In addition, records of the University Budget Crisis Committee's document the impact of the Great Recession in 2007-2009 on the university's operations. As the Office of the Provost looked toward the university's future in the late 1990s and early 2000s, many records also focus on Strategic Planning for FSU and the State University System of Florida.
