Background

Scope and content:

This collection relates to John L. McQuigg (Lieutenant Colonel with the US Army Air Force) who served with the 8th Air Force in Photographic Reconnaissance in the European and Mediterranean Theaters and participated in the North African and the Italian Allied Photo Reconnaissance Wing, including surveillance for the Anzio Landing. The collection contains military papers, ephemera, photographs, artifacts, and maps covering John L. McQuigg's communication with his wife and children, surveillance operations during the war, and documents from the Air Force reserves following the war.

Biographical / historical:

John Lyman McQuigg was born in 1907 in Los Angeles, CA, and died in 1982 in Stuart, FL. He was married to Dorothy Elinor King McQuigg, who was born March 20, 1908, in Fort Worth, TX, and died March 16, 1983, in Stuart, FL. The couple had two children: John "Jack" Dolph McQuigg, born October 19, 1931, in Abilene, TX (died June 16, 2019) and Sarah "Sassie" McQuigg McGagh, born in 1933 (died August 29, 2001).

Custodial history:

Transferred from the Institute on World War II and the Human Experience to FSU Libraries Special Collections & Archives in July 2022.
