As early as age seven, she began learning proficient use of the piano at the New York College of Music by pianist Alexander Lambert. At age eight, she made her piano debut at the New York Symphony Orchestra. Early on, she studied and toured Europe with such composers as Leopold Godowsky, Ferruccio Busoni, and Herman Spielter.
