Biographical / historical:

Master Sergeant Herman J. Daum served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, in particular, England and France. He received the Bronze Star for his service during the 3rd Army's "dash across France" when they outran the limits of the maps being used. Master Sergeant Daum and the men under his command created new maps for the region in less than 24 hours rather than the usual 4 days. Prior to Master Sergeant Daum leaving for training, he married his wife Laurice Abood Daum. He then left for training in Georgia and later trained at Camp Campbell, KY.
