Background

Scope and content:

This collection primarily consists of letters, the majority sent from servicemen to the Elmer Reeves family, and very few from the Reeves themselves during World War II. These letters include V-Mail, and various post and Christmas cards, in addition to the normal letters. The collection also includes photographs of many of the senders and a full list of men from the community who served during the war.

Biographical / historical:

During World War II, when many young men in the Reeves' community went off to war, they maintained contact with the Reeves. Elmer Reeves owned a corner drug store and knew the community well. They were a natural link between the servicemen and their community back home.
