This folder contains 7 personal letters to Smith's family, as well as two postage stamps bearing Adolf Hitler's face, and an authentic Franze von Pappen business card.
This set of letters provide information regarding Lindauer's final months of training at Camp Fannin before being shipped overseas to join the Italian campaign in May, 1944. In these letters, Lindauer describes the terrain and climate he encountered in Italy with very few references to combat itself. Lindauer also details in some of his letters his participation in the liberation of Rome and life in the city following its capture.
