Ronald Morgan Letters Sent to Family, November 1944 - December 1944

Containers:
01.0362 - Box 1, Folder 002
Scope and content:

The folder includes letters which describe Morgan's day-to-day training in Fort Riley, including simulated combat, marches, runs, riding, and shooting drills. Early in November, he suffers from a problem in his left ear which causes partial deafness for a short time, and from December 6th-11th he is in a hospital ward suffering from pneumonia. He continues to receive recognition from his commanding officers and receives his first stripe. He applies to join the Paratroopers and passes the physical, but is not admitted due to the quote having already been reached. He includes an incident during training where a grenade exploded prematurely, resulting in three deaths and one lieutenant losing a leg.
