Biographical / historical:

Citizens concerned for the future of the Lower Hillsborough River have formed a new non-profit civic group, Friends of the River, Inc. (FOR), and appealed a recent ruling by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD). SWFWMD recently established a minimum flow of water for the Lower River, as intended by state law to help rivers regain their health. FOR objects SWFWMD's plan to pump water up from Sulphur Springs for release below the dam, instead of allowing any fresh water over the Rowlett Park dam or from another source.
