Containers:
Box 01.0347-Box 1, Folder 008
Scope and content:

This collection contains a sailing list number card, ticket holders for the Santa Fe railroad, traveler's insurance papers for both Vreelands and papers from ship travel. Among these papers is an unaddressed and unsigned letter written in the Philippines and describing the USS Pitt's landing in Okinawa. The letter notes that information in the letter would not have been allowed to be released due to censors before V-J Day. This also contains USS Pitt Radio News Documents, including a memorial hymn from May 30, 1946 and news, sports, comics, and ship notices from May 30 to June 3, 1946. The news section of the Radio News Documents describes a variety of national and international news. National news focuses heavily on developments in labor laws and right, while international news is geared towards more political content. This folder contains a Routine & Regulations document of an unnamed ship. Additionally, the collection contains a pass allowing Leslie to visit Gretchen on ship. It does not permit him to travel to women's quarters or for her to go to areas blocked off for women.
