Containers:

Scope and content:

This folder contains letters from Clifford Prince to his wife, Irene, as he is back in the hospital in the first half of June. He waits for the Red Cross to visit and determine if he had a sickness the base doctors could not diagnose and hopes to get discharged soon. The base was also visited by 8 girls from New York who put on a show for them. He describes how much he misses his family and hopes to see them soon considering he doesn't feel well enough to go to boot camp. The hospital doctor thinks men are coming up with fake illnesses in order to go home. He said that they were sending too many men home and the government stopped them, and have become very strict with sailors asking to be discharged even though they're not doing anything around the hospital. Prince goes back to duty June 17th, 1944. They work from 5 A.M. to 9 P.M. and get a half hour after each meal to smoke. Prince works in the mess hall and is given the duty of managing 10 men so he doesn't have to work as much. They have 5 phones for 60,000 men.
