Student Affairs, 1967-2003
- Scope and content:
Series III holds correspondence, reports, and memoranda that give some indication of matters that concern students. The folders are arranged in alphabetical order. The Child Care Center is now known as the Creative School and the Developmental Center is now Counseling and Testing. The Village Center was the center of student activity and is the building now known as Ferrell Commons. Faculty files show some of the matters in which they became directly involved as well as more individual concerns of LeVester Tubbs, Carol Wilson, and W. Rex Brown. An oversize photograph shows Dr. Colbourn with students outside the Education building. Homecoming files contain information about the first homecoming and the first football homecoming. Dedication of the John T. Washington Center is documented in this series. Of interest is the concern over student demonstrations in the late 1960s, which led to administrators writing a policy to cover such eventualities. Students objected to restrictions on Visitation, i.e., male and female students visiting each other's rooms, while administrators were concerned to uphold moral standards.
