Academic Affairs, 1967-2003
- Scope and content:
Series II contains correspondence, reports, notes and pamphlets that shows how the University functioned academically. The materials are arranged in several subseries to help limit searches for relevant information. Files are arranged alphabetically within each subseries. Each College has its own subseries; the College of Natural Sciences became part of the new College of Arts and Sciences so is included in that subseries. The College of Engineering retraining project, named RETRO, was an attempt to retrain space industry workers for other jobs. Branch Campuses follow, and then Research, which includes Graduate Studies as they formed one division during this period. Faculty files provide information about individual senior administrators as well as general information about the faculty's relationship with the university. Undergraduate Studies and Extended Studies form their own subseries. Finally, "University Affairs" was selected as a general title to encompass academic activities that did not fall readily into other subseries.
Of particular interest in this series is information on the dedication several structures. The dedication of Driggers Field may be found in the College of Arts and Sciences folders; the dedication of the Computer Science building in 1996 is documented in the Computer Science folder; the dedication of the Flame of Hope is recorded in the Library folder; the dedication of a solar-powered highway sign built on the Beachline in 1988 is documented in the Florida Solar Energy Center folders. A photograph of Dr. Millican, Dr. Colbourn, Dr. Steven Altman and Buell Duncan sitting on a pile of paper money is held in the SunBank Chair in Banking folder. The filming of Superboy on campus is documented in the Film folder.
