Letters from Harold G. Blunk to Wife, December 1942-September 1944
- Containers:
- 14.0004 - Box 1, Folder 001
- Scope and content:
This folder contains personal letters from Blunk to his wife, Ruby, as he begins his training. They primarily contain questions about his family's activities and wellbeing, as well as repeated proclamations of his love for her. In his first letters from December 1942, he details his arrival to Sheppard Field, Texas where he received mental and physical testing to determine his placement in a technical school of his choice. Shortly after, he is placed in the 5th Air Depot Group as an industrial engineer and is moved to camps in Atlantic City, New Jersey and then Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia. In his January 15, 1943 letter, he is no longer stateside as he remarks that he is "somewhere in England" at that point. While in England, he frequently asks her to write to him and complains that the lack of mail makes him incredibly homesick. He asks for pictures of her and their children and in return sends home his 8th Air Force shoulder patch for safekeeping.
