Correspondence
- Scope and content:
Series contains correspondence dating from 1895-1927. Included are letters urging Jose Ramon Avellanal to seek the directorship of the Centro Español, as well as letters answering Avellanal's numerous questions about Tampa: What is the water like? Is it true that gastrointestinal problems exist among the populace? Can good milk be obtained? Other letters refer to cigar workers' strikes (in Cuba and in Tampa). Letters from family detail business matters, lottery standings, personal problems. The clinic itself is besieged with internal problems, and doctors are leaving for higher paying positions with other societies. In a couple of cases, doctors are drafted. One letter relates the tensions in Tampa between the Latin mutual aid societies' doctors and the Anglo doctors who oppose their practices.
